Edting the film
Editing the film is taking longer than anticipated, due to the 30 minutes of film we have to edit. We are currently experimenting with layering the video, in our flash backs. This gives it a sporadic and disjointed effect that makes it clear its a flashback. Before entering the flashback we have a inserted a blank white slide, giving the effect of a flash. We will be speeding up sections of the film, to, try and up the intensity of the film. We will be adding some non diegetic sound effects too, our film. This will make it dynamic

Filming
On monday 8th we got together for the first time to start filming our production. We all met at Rupert's house in cambridge to film the scene where the main protagonist couldn't sleep. Whilst filming we had few problems, the main one was trying too using influences from film noir, but was unable to pull off the shot due to poor lighting. Another problem that we were faced with was the low quality cameras we were supplied with. This limited us with movement, and zooming in, due to the low frame rate.

update
We have taken influence from Shaun of the dead and lock stock and two smoking barrels, in terms of shot types. The shaun of the dead shot type is the quick cuts, close up and super imposed sound.

Target audience
We intend our film to be viewed by an audience of 12+. It doesn't have anything inherently, violent about it but it is defiantly not a film to be viewed by people younger than 12.As it deals with theft and murder, these could be potential upsetting for younger audiences. The classification of 12 is suitable due to the factors, researched on the bbfc website.

location ideas
For the opening sequence we will film inside someones bedroom. As of yet we haven't decided where this will happen but will most likely be filmed in Cambridge. For the robbery scene Barney has said that he has a friend that owns a convenient store in Coleridge that will let us use the store so it looks real and authentic.
This picture is just an example of the type of location used for the robbery scene and possibly the chase scene.

mise en scene
costume:
The costumes in the film will be typical youths clothing so hoodies, tracksuit bottoms ,with the exception of the police officer. We are as of yet undecided as how to portray the police officer. He could be undercover, in normal clothing. But the ideal situation would be to get a police uniform somehow, so we could easily distinguish who the police officer is.
lighting:
With regards to lighting, we will use natural lighting, during the chase scene. During the beginning scene the lighting will be minimal and dark, so the main character is encompassed in darkness. We want to keep the lighting as natural as possible to keep in the outdoor scenes but in the indoor scenes, we want darkness. The reason for this is to show the viewer the darkness within him.
Props:
The props we will use in this production consist of products that have been stolen from the convenient store and a knife that is used to stab.

shot ideas
We intend on framing the short film, reminiscent of Shaun of the dead. Lots of fast cuts to keep the action going. The initial idea is to have a fair amount of reaction shots, to try and portray the characters emotions. The lighting in the beginning scenes will be dark, to highlight the severity of his crime.
During the scenes in the open, the shots will be mid to long shot, to capture the action. The whole chase seen will be split between the mid range and reaction shots. With the death of the police man there will be extreme close ups to show the death of him.
We are also thinking of using first person perspective when the police person gets stabbed.

we as a group have thought about certain shots and transitions. At the beginning of the film the transitions will start slow when the main protagonist is thinking about what he has done. Using an idea from American history X, which is When the flash backs occur we have the idea that we will put them in a black and white filter depending on how it looks.

Also when the robbery occurs the transitions will speed up throwing in a few match on action shots to help speed up the chase scene preventing it from dragging out making the viewer loose interest. The speed will be quite fast in the majority of the flash backs then slow in the present.

We have many ideas mainly focussing on the premise of surrealism. So far our results are disjointed and sporadic, and we have yet to create a coherent story-line. Our ideas focus upon a disgruntled worker who is unhappy with his day to day life. It will be shot in a style reminiscent of Shaun Of The Dead.
